GUE/NGL: Pesticides: consumer health will be better protected

The GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament welcomes the Parliament’s decision to ban pesticides in agriculture. The new measures against cancer-causing pesticides will protect consumers and help farmers to provide high-quality products. „The European Parliament has managed to develop stronger rules regarding pesticides despite resistance from the Council“, said MEP Roberto Musacchio (GUE/NGL, Italy). „Toxic products belong to a past in which agriculture policies were based on quantity rather than on quality, which was dangerous for everyone.“

EP verabschiedet neue EU-Pestizidpolitik

Nachfolgend wird eine geringfügig veränderte und gekürzte Pressemitteilung des Europäischen Parlaments dokumentiert.

Das Europäische Parlament hat die neue EU-Pestizidpolitik verabschiedet. Das Paket besteht aus einer Verordnung zur Produktion und Zulassung von Pestiziden und einer Richtlinie zu deren nachhaltigem Einsatz. Gefährliche Stoffe werden verboten. Empfindliche Gebiete wie Spielplätze oder Parks werden besser geschützt, ebenso die aquatische Umwelt und die Trinkwasservorräte. EP: Ecosystem approach to fisheries management

Nachfolgend wird eine geringfügig veränderte und gekürzte Pressemitteilung des Europäischen Parlaments dokumentiert.

Parliament adopted a report on the Commission communication „The role of the Common Fisheries Policy in implementing an ecosystem approach to marine management“. According to MEPs, this initiative is a „contribution“ for guaranteeing exploitation of fisheries resources in a way that will create sustainable conditions from the social, environmental and economic points of views, urging however the Commission to reconsider the present system of TACs and quotas.
The EP urges the Commission to reconsider the present system of total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas as the principal instrument for managing marine resources and its „usefulness“ given the present fishing restrictions.
